Push Notifications
Push notifications are the alerts that appear on your phone's lock screen and home screen, even when the app is closed. They let you know about things like a waitlist spot opening up, a class being cancelled, or a message from your gym.
Everything to do with notifications lives in one place: Profile → Notifications.
Before You Start
- Push notifications only work in the installed app (downloaded from the App Store or Google Play). If you use the app in a web browser you'll see a note saying device registration is only available in the installed app.
- You need to be signed in.
- Your phone must allow notifications for the app — see "Turning Notifications On" below.
Turning Notifications On (First Time)
- Install the app and sign in.
- A few seconds after opening the app, your phone shows the standard permission pop-up asking whether the app can send you notifications.
- Tap Allow. Your device then registers itself quietly in the background — there's nothing else to do.
If you tapped "Don't Allow" by mistake, or the pop-up never appeared, you can fix it from the Notifications page — see "Fixing a Device That Isn't Registered".
Checking Whether This Device Is Set Up
- Tap Profile in the bottom menu.
- Tap Notifications at the top of the settings list.
- The first card, Push notifications, tells you the status of the phone you're holding:
- "This device is registered for push notifications" — all good, nothing to do.
- "This device is not registered yet" — tap Retry.
- "Notifications are blocked in your phone's Settings" — allow them in your phone settings first (see below), then come back and tap Retry.
- "Device registration is available in the installed app" — you're using the web version; install the app to receive push notifications.
Fixing a Device That Isn't Registered
- iPhone: open Settings → Notifications, find the app in the list, and switch Allow Notifications on.
Android: open Settings → Apps, find the app, tap Notifications and switch them on. - Return to the app and go to Profile → Notifications.
- Tap Retry on the Push notifications card.
- The card should change to "This device is registered for push notifications".
If an error message appears under the status, note the wording and send it to your gym — it tells support exactly what went wrong.
Choosing Which Notifications You Receive
Underneath the status card, the Notification preferences card lists every optional notification type with its own switch. All of them are on by default. Switch any of them off and the change saves immediately — there's no Save button.
- Gym news & info alerts — general announcements from your gym.
- Waitlist spot available — a place opens up on a class you're waiting for.
- Messages from your gym — direct messages and broadcasts sent to your inbox.
- Chat messages — someone messages you in a conversation.
- Leaderboard comments — someone comments on your result or tags you.
- Workout result reminders — a nudge after class to log your result.
- Member of the Month — nominations opening and winner announcements.
- Missed class reminders — you were marked as a no-show for a class you booked.
- Gym updates & offers — automated messages your gym has set up.
There's also an In-app alerts switch at the bottom of the list. This is separate from push: it controls whether leaderboard comments also show as alerts inside the app, even if you've turned the push notification off.
Notifications You Can't Switch Off
A greyed "Always sent" box at the bottom of the card lists the notifications that matter too much to miss:
- Urgent gym alerts — closures, safety notices and anything needing immediate attention.
- Warning gym alerts — important changes you need to know about.
- Class cancelled — a class you've booked has been cancelled.
- Appointment updates — your appointment is booked, changed or cancelled.
The only way to stop these is to turn notifications off for the whole app in your phone's settings.
Turning Everything Off
To stop all notifications, including the "always sent" ones, switch notifications off for the app in your phone's own settings (iPhone: Settings → Notifications → the app; Android: Settings → Apps → the app → Notifications). You can turn them back on the same way; you may need to tap Retry on the Notifications page afterwards.
Tapping a Notification
Notifications take you straight to the right place in the app. A gym alert opens the alert itself, a chat message opens that conversation, a cancelled class opens your bookings, and so on. If the app was signed out when you tapped, it waits until you've signed in and then takes you there.
Your Preferences Are Per Gym
Your choices are saved against the gym you're currently viewing. If you're a member of more than one gym, set your preferences separately for each.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing arrives at all — check the status card says "registered", then check notifications are allowed in your phone settings and that Do Not Disturb / Focus isn't hiding them.
- Some types arrive, others don't — check the switches on the Notification preferences card.
- Notifications stopped after reinstalling the app — open Profile → Notifications and tap Retry; a reinstall issues a new device registration.
- You changed phone — just sign in on the new phone and allow notifications. Your old device is cleaned up automatically.
