Member App Push Notifications
When you send an alert, a message, or trigger an automation, members with the installed app receive a push notification on their phone. This article explains what gets sent, what members can switch off, and how to help a member who says they aren't receiving anything.
What Triggers a Push
- Gym alerts (Messages → Alerts) — when push sending is enabled on the alert.
- Messages and broadcasts sent to a member's inbox.
- Chat messages in a conversation.
- Class cancellations and waitlist spots opening up.
- Appointment bookings, changes and cancellations.
- Automations with a push step.
- Member of the Month nominations and winner announcements.
- Workout result reminders after a class.
- Leaderboard comments on a member's result.
- Missed class reminders when a booking is marked as a no-show.
What Members Can Switch Off
Members manage this at Profile → Notifications in the member app. Every optional type is on by default. They can switch off: gym news & info alerts, waitlist spots, messages from the gym, chat messages, leaderboard comments, workout result reminders, missed class reminders, Member of the Month, and gym updates & offers (automations).
What Always Gets Through
These bypass member preferences entirely and can only be stopped by the member turning off notifications for the whole app on their phone:
- Urgent alerts
- Warning alerts
- Class cancellations
- Appointment updates
Practical implication: if an announcement genuinely must reach everyone, set the alert type to Warning or Urgent rather than Info. Use Info for general news, and expect some members to have opted out of it.
Checking Whether an Alert Was Delivered
- Go to Messages → Alerts.
- Open the alert and view its delivery statistics.
- Each recipient is listed with a status: queued, sent, failed or skipped, along with how many of their devices received it.
- No devices against a member means they haven't installed the app or haven't allowed notifications yet.
- Failed rows show the reason; the system retries automatically for temporary failures and removes devices that no longer exist.
- Members who opted out of that notification type simply don't appear in the recipient list.
Helping a Member Who Isn't Receiving Notifications
- Ask them to install the app from the App Store or Google Play (push doesn't work in a web browser).
- Ask them to open Profile → Notifications and read the status on the first card. If it doesn't say registered, they should tap Retry.
- If it says notifications are blocked, they need to allow them in their phone's settings first, then tap Retry.
- Check the switches on the Notification preferences card — the specific type may be switched off.
- Check Do Not Disturb / Focus mode isn't suppressing them.
