Member Refer a Friend Program

The Member Refer a Friend program lets your existing members invite friends to join your gym. When a referred friend signs up, both the referrer and the new member can receive a discount on their membership — driving organic growth through your happiest members.

How It Works

1. You configure the referral program settings (discount type, value, who receives the reward).
2. When activated, every existing member automatically receives a unique referral code.
3. Members share their code with friends via the member app (displayed on their home dashboard).
4. When a new member signs up and enters a valid referral code during checkout, the system automatically applies a Stripe coupon to both parties' subscriptions.

Setting Up the Program

1. Navigate to Settings → Billing & Subscription.
2. Scroll to the Member Referral Program section.
3. Configure the following options:
   • Discount Type — Choose between a Percentage (e.g. 10% off) or Fixed Amount (e.g. £5 off).
   • Discount Value — The amount of the discount.
   • Applies To — Who gets the discount: Both (referrer and new member), Referrer Only, or New Member Only.
   • Billing Cycles — How many months the discount applies (e.g. 1 month, 3 months).
   • Max Referrals Per Member — Optionally limit how many friends each member can refer. Leave blank for unlimited.
4. Click Save Changes to store your configuration.
5. Toggle the Activate switch. This generates unique referral codes for all current members and makes the program visible in the member app.

What Members See

Once the program is active, members see a "Your Referral Code" card on their home dashboard. They can:

• Copy their unique code to share with friends
• See how many successful referrals they've made

New Member Experience

During the join flow, new members can enter a referral code at the payment step. The system validates the code in real-time and shows the discount that will be applied. Invalid, expired, or maxed-out codes are rejected with a clear error message.

Managing Referral Codes

The Referral Program section shows all member codes with:

• The member's name
• Their unique code
• Usage count (how many times it's been redeemed)
• Active/inactive status

How Rewards Are Applied

When a referral code is used during sign-up, the system automatically:

1. Creates a Stripe coupon matching your program settings
2. Applies the coupon to the referrer's active subscription (if "Both" or "Referrer Only")
3. Applies the coupon to the new member's subscription (if "Both" or "New Member Only")

The discount runs for the configured number of billing cycles and then expires automatically.

Deactivating the Program

Toggle the activation switch off to deactivate the program. Existing codes become inactive, and the referral card disappears from the member app. Any discounts already applied to subscriptions will continue until their billing cycle limit is reached — they are not revoked retroactively.
